The
most southerly point in mainland
Britain
This
lifeboat Station is now closed.
Years ago the first boat building
was around the top making a
longer and risky journey to
the sea in rough weather, the
second is the building on the
left and the last one is on
the top of the slip way.
Bringing
the boat back in was also a
risky business in rough weather,
with many rocks near. Ropes
were put around a pillar in
the sea, then turning it on
land and later a circular giant
wheel in the ground to point
it in the right direction to
enter the boat house again.
These
were indeed very brave men who
worked here.
